Wondering about family activities for your #VenturaHarbor weekend trip? Ventura Harbor Village and the surrounding area is a year-round destination that provides just the right balance between relaxation and exploration. You can experience adventurous day trips from here – or you can set up at the beach and watch the boats come into the harbor. Ventura also happens to […]
Planning trips and going new places keeps me sane. I don't need to tally up countries as a world traveller. I kinda want to leave some adventures for my kids to discover on their own when they are grown.
However, I'm happy driving an hour away or even 5 hours or 20 hours over multiple weeks! When we hop on a plane it's to places like Yellowstone, Alaska, Europe or across the county.
Don't you think that looking forward to and planning your next adventure -- far or near -- makes your day-to-day more enjoyable? It does for me!
While our 2012 summer road trip was highlighted by stops at Humboldt Redwoods State Park, McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park and Lava Beds National Monument, there were other pit stop adventures along the way. Here are some of our favorites: Golden Gate Bridge (San Francisco, CA) My oldest had been looking forward to crossing the Golden Gate Bridge for months. We had hoped […]
If you only had a year in California, what are the top five places to go with your family before you move away? My criteria? Mostly that it needs to be signature California. Something you can’t experience anywhere else. I’m also pretending that you will NEVER be back in California. You have one chance to see […]
I love Yosemite in the off-season! There’s no reason to wait until you can make a “big trip” there – go the next chance you get (outside of the summer season). I’m going to tell you how to see Yosemite in one weekend. We left at 1pm on Friday and got back at 8pm […]
Roughly 4 hours northeast of Humboldt Redwoods State Park was stop No. 2 on our 2012 Northern California road trip: McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park. McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park certainly isn’t easy to get to. It sits on the eastern edge of the Cascade Range, between Mount Shasta and Lassen Peak. The park’s centerpiece is the 129-foot Burney […]
Lands End Lookout and the Sutro Bath Ruins for families is a trip that seemingly brought us to the edge of the world and then into the mouth of a sea cave! It was an breathtaking stop on our way through the Bay Area to points north. And guess what? It was sunny! In San Francisco! […]
We just kicked off summer break here – in fine fashion, I might add. We spent the weekend in Big Bear, a mountain getaway roughly 100 miles northeast of Los Angeles. Although better known for its winter sports, there are a ton of fun summer activities for kids in Big Bear, too. With more then […]
Yes. We let our kids go inside a grizzly bear habitat. Let me set the scene . . . My friend, “Mel” pointed us in the direction of the Grizzly & Wolf Discovery Center in West Yellowstone as a way to start our trip into the park. She’s a Yellowstone vacation coach for families who […]
