Thinking of visiting San Diego with kids? It’s one of our favorite destinations! The hardest part is trying to decide what we should do while we’re there. I keep a list of family activities under $100 which I present to the kids when we’re ready to hit the road. I let them choose from a full list of things that I want to do (see how sneaky I am). My criteria is that the whole day will cost us $100 or less, excluding lunch. We could choose to eat out or pack a picnic. I explain that any leftover cash gets put back into the piggy bank for our next field trip.
All of these trips have some sort of outdoorsy component to them. Make sure you leave TIME for wandering and “seeing what happens.” These options will take most of your day – perfect for a day trip from LA or OC. You can also make them part of a family vacation.
Pricing Criteria: Prices are based on ONE ADULT and TWO KIDS (9 and 5 years old) so if your kids are younger, you might pay considerably less than what I listed. Or maybe your younger kids would be free, but you’ll have to pay for another adult to come along? Do your own research by clicking the links to figure out how much it would cost for your family. It was just a way to get a ballpark price for the post. Prices posted from Spring 2017.
Wait for October? Many of these attractions are part of the SanDiego.org Kids Free month in October. So just check there for deals. Sometimes even the train trip down is discounted. Also keep your eye on the San Diego Museum Council website for special promotions.
